Järvesoo & Savalduma Bog Snowshoe Hike for Nature Lovers
The Järvesoo & Savalduma Bog Snowshoe Hike is for people who want to enter the bog in a way that keeps nature a friend. On snowshoes we reach places no boardwalk will take you, and we learn to notice how a bog works: stages of bog development, bog life, and how species are connected to their habitats.
We’ll observe fascinating “kurisud” — places where the bog seems to swallow water — and discuss why this matters for the ecology of the whole area. Along the way we read the signs: tracks, plants, moss, pools, birdsong. And if someone asks, “Is that a bear track?”, we’ll answer honestly… with a smile.
During our break we’ll brew warming tea from bog water and wild plants.
Duration: 3–4 hours • Distance: 5–7 km
Suitable for families and adults (also for friend groups and teams).
We follow the Snowshoe Tourism Code of Good Practice, so snowshoe hikes are not held from 23 April to 24 June. Dress in layers, bring gloves, and come discover the quiet of the bog. You’ll learn why we spread out when walking in a bog, how snowshoes reduce trampling, and the difference between a bog pool, a bog lake, and a hummock.
